Are rents competitive? Where can we reduce costs without compromising quality? How do we drive sustained revenue growth?  These are the strategic questions Ally Shulman, assistance vice president of asset management, addresses to maximize long-term value across Draper and Kramer, Incorporated’s multifamily portfolio, with a focus on DK properties in Chicago, Phoenix, Austin and Denver.

“Every multifamily property is unique, pushing me to continuously learn and adapt by understanding the perspectives of owners, residents, and management — all to help each asset reach its full potential,” said Ally. “At Draper and Kramer, I have the autonomy to make big decisions and truly own the portfolio’s success, which makes the work even more rewarding.”

After earning her degree in finance and accounting from Emory University’s Goizueta Business School and while still in the early days of launching her career, Ally frequently looked back on an impactful piece of advice she received: “I often felt overly concerned about letting others down. But something my Uncle David once said really stuck: ‘You’re the CEO of your life.’ That mindset changed everything. I realized that real progress begins with me — owning my path, trusting my instincts and taking intentional action. Whenever I reach a crossroads, I come back to my core values, lean into my strengths and move forward with authenticity. As life evolves, so do our priorities, and that advice has given me the confidence and freedom to make choices that truly align with who I am.”

Guided by that new mindset, she began her career in Washington, D.C. as a leasing agent. There, she gained valuable hands-on experience that solidified her new passion for multifamily real estate. This led her behind the scenes, where she’s since tackled acquisitions, brokerage, startups and asset management. Ally’s path gives her a well-rounded edge, allowing her to see the industry from many angles and use that perspective to drive performance.

Ultimately, Ally made the move to Chicago, where she discovered she could truly lean into her strengths and align her core values with Draper and Kramer — a company that not only offers stability but also supports her evolving, family-first lifestyle. “Draper and Kramer has reignited my passion for asset management and helped me build confidence in my work,” she said. “With its rich history, traditional values, and dedicated team, I’ve felt supported at every step of my growth. Balancing life as a new mom and a working professional was seamless, thanks to the incredible people around me. I’m proud to contribute to the company’s ongoing success.”

Just before joining the company three years ago, Ally got married to her husband, Andrew. Her weekends now revolve around family time with their almost two-year-old daughter, Lucy — filled with playground adventures in their Lakeview neighborhood and strolls along the lakefront.
